The emphasis at Apple this month is on Social Skill Development and our August/September theme of Friendship.  We always spend a great deal of time at the beginning of the school year on the basics of being a friend, thinking of how we speak to and treat each other, and use a variety of communication and role playing exercises.  As educators we realize that far too many of us assume that these important life skills are simple and easily taught; however, as parents AND teachers we soon realized that like any other important lesson, children need to be shown clearly by example the advantages as well as methods of treating others as we'd like to be treated.  We are proud to have also heard from so many of our colleagues at Rio and Valencia about how our Apple and Magic Apple students really stand out in their classrooms with the kindness and compassion they extend to their peers.  We also keep track of our Apple and Magic Apple alumni who frequently drop by to visit and let us know of their involvements in middle and high school in leadership, talent, and academic events.
