Apple School Enrollment and Policy Information: FAQs
Enrollment for our wonderful programs may be quite competitive at times so it is important to read and understand our policies to avoid possible disappointment and hurt feelings when a space is not available for your student.
What happens after I submit an application for a fall space?
After your application is received you will be contacted for a brief visit with your student. You and your student will be shown around our campus. After visiting we encourage parents to speak with their child(ren) at home and facilitate a conversation about their possible attendance at Apple Afterschool or Camp Apple; our priority is to insure that enrollment at Apple must be in the best interest of each student. Please note if you applying for a fall space at the beginning of next year we highly recommend that you consider sending your student to Camp Apple as well --besides being the only way to guarantee fall admission (See below for more information), our wonderful programs provide optimum public school readiness with exciting units of study and experiences children really enjoy. This is a great time for children to also bond with others who will be attending public school and Apple together.
Are deposit checks (materials and registration fees and 1/2 of regular monthly tuition) required to attend?
A great deal of paperwork and energy goes into each requested enrollment. By requiring deposit checks we are insuring that applicants are serious about enrolling. Required deposit checks, however, ARE NOT CASHED until after the visits are completed and it has been determined by both teachers and parents that enrollment will be in the best interest of the child(ren). Once enrollment has been agreed upon by both parents and teachers and enrollment paperwork has been sent the deposits are no longer refundable.
What happens after the visit if a space in not available as requested?
We will place your student on our wait list and contact you for enrollment as soon as your requested space becomes available. All deposits would be returned.
What is the easiest time to gain admission ?
Students attending a minimum of four weeks at Camp Apple (any combination of four weeks irregardless of themes) are the only ones who will have a guaranteed fall enrollment space (SEE BELOW FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION)
ENROLLMENT POLICIES FOR APPLE AFTERSCHOOL
How do I guarantee a fall space at Apple for my student?
Attend at least 20 days at either summer camp for a 5-day fall space.
Attend at least 12 days at either summer camp for a 3-day fall space.
Attend at least 8 days at either summer camp for a 2-day fall space.
Pay 1⁄2 tuition to hold any of the above spaces without actual attendance.
I am sending my child for five days for two weeks and 3 days for two weeks—may I have a five--‐day space in the fall?
In the above scenario your student would have attended a total of 16 days-‐four short of the 20 required. The above attendance would be adequate for a 3-day per week fall space however, with the option of adding additional days when they became available.
My student attends Apple currently. We want a space in the fall but my student will be attending karate camp, drama camp, tennis camp, jr. guards, etc. Just as your student currently has priority in receiving a space in our summer camps, so summer students have priority in the fall. One reason for our waiting lists is that we offer very high quality programs in beautiful settings at very reasonable costs. It is unreasonable to expect us to be able to hold spaces without any tuition.
What if I want my student to attend, or I want to pay to hold a space but I don’t have all the funds right now?
Unlike most other programs, Aubrey (685-0629) at Apple and Jan at Magic Apple (688--‐1753) or magicappleschool@yahoo.com will work with you to make financial arrangements that work for you (payments extended over several months, post dated checks, etc.), so that your student may attend.
Why can’t you enroll another student for the summer and then give us our space back when we want to return in the fall?
As most new families are aware, the best time to gain admission to our popular programs is in the summer (sixth graders graduate at Magic and first graders at Apple freeing up spaces). As always, currently enrolled students have first choice in requesting enrollment. It is unfair to expect a current student to leave because a former student wants to return.
Why do you give priority to summer students?
We give priority to currently enrolled families whether the summer and/or fall programs because they are prioritizing and supporting our schools through the enrollment of their children.
Are there alternatives if we will not be attending but want a guaranteed space in the fall?
You may elect to pay tuition at 1⁄2 the regular amount and a space will be guaranteed for your student. You may also elect to attend one session and pay 1⁄2 the regular amount to hold the second session (the number of families enrolling in these option will be limited, however, as our schools are small and we are very dependent on tuition to meet the numerous expenses associated with our high quality programs). You may also split attendance between Camp Western Town and Camp Apple.
Do I have to keep the same days of the week in the fall that my child attended in the summer?
Part-time students (2 or 3 days) will be given first choice of preferred days in the fall and may request different days from their summer attendance as long as the minimum number of days has been fulfilled as described.
What if we want to return in the fall and we are NOT enrolling in the summer at either program and/or NOT electing to pay one--‐half tuition to hold our space for the fall?
Your student would be added to the waiting lists. You may check on a fall space in early August, after summer students have made their choices for fall.
What if my student attends a few days of summer, would that be an advantage? The listed summer attendance requirement must be met for a fall space to be guaranteed.
Will my student be prioritized as a returning student if not attending in the summer?
Your student will be placed on the waiting list as of the date they last attended (unfortunately we are not able to skip any students ahead for any reason).
